Gamilaroi man Dhinawan Baker has won the 2024 Deadly Funny National Grand Final held on Monday 14 April at Arts Centre Melbourne. The event, part of the Melbourne International Comedy Festival, was hosted by comedian Mr Kevin Kropinyeri and featured performances by 2024 winners Tyson Walker and Kalah Lovegrove, 2022 winner Ms Janty Blair, and US guest Channel Ali.

Tylissa Elisara has shed tears of joy at children's reactions to her middle-grade novel about a reclusive hairy-nosed wombat from the 55th burrow of Bushland Avenue, Kangaroo Island. Ms Elisara, who is of Narungga, Kaurna and Adnyamathanha descent, wrote Wurrtoo: The Wombat Who Fell in Love with the Sky for her now-teenage son, Jaxon, to instil a sense of pride in his First Nations heritage. At Jaxon's urging to have it published, she applied for and won a black&write! Writing Fellowship.

More than $25 million will be committed by the federal and NT governments to increase the training capability in essential health care services, with a focus on aged care, birthing, children's healthcare, and mental health care. The announcement on Tuesday to "turbocharge" the Regional and Remote Essential Care Services (RRECS) Centre of Excellence through Charles Darwin University and Batchelor Institute in Central Australia will see $20.1 million invested by the two governments.

Police are calling for public assistance to help locate a missing 14-year-old girl named Naomi. She was last seen in Noarlunga about 8.30pm and later in Adelaide's CBD around 9pm on Monday 24 March. Naomi is described as Aboriginal, 175cm tall, medium build, with brown hair and brown eyes. She was wearing a black hooded jumper, black shorts and black shoes. She is also known as Sharon.
