KENOSHA — Several homeowners in Kenosha are still cleaning up after a sewage backup damaged their homes on Aug. 4. Over 20 homeowners were left with thousands of dollars in damages and extensive cleanup bills after a sewage pipe malfunctioned. Melissa Beck and Jason Palmer are two residents whose basements flooded unexpectedly. Pictures show Beck's basement completely covered in human waste. "Poop, vomit, you name it, whatever you put in the toilet was in our basement," Beck recalled.

Chrystul Kizer has been sentenced to 16 years in a second degree reckless homicide case. The 23-year-old claims she killed Randall Volar III after he sexually assaulted her as a teen. She's accused of shooting him twice in the head, setting his house on fire and fleeing in his car. That was back in 2018. Kizer was brought back into custody following a warrant for her arrest on separate charges from a Milwaukee domestic incident.

By Glendalys ValdesMedill ReportsTOKYO — In Japan, only 19% of working-age people with disabilities are employed, according to a Bloomberg calculation, but Dawn Avatar Robot Cafe in Tokyo challenges those barriers by employing people who have physical disabilities and are otherwise unable to work. Ory Laboratory, the company that built and opened the cafe in 2021, created OriHime, a robot that can be controlled from a smartphone or tablet and can be used to see, hear and talk.

For years, the Koppers coal tar plant in Cicero has been the town’s biggest source of industrial air pollution. In the neighborhoods near the 36-acre facility, some residents say they have always noticed white smoke billowing from its smokestacks, rotten smells and poor air quality.
