WASHINGTON — The Federal Reserve will likely keep its key short-term interest rate unchanged on Wednesday, despite weeks of harsh criticism and demands from President Donald Trump that the Fed reduce borrowing costs. After causing a sharp drop in financial markets two weeks ago by saying he could fire Fed Chair Jerome Powell, Trump subsequently backed off and said he had no intention of doing so. Still, he and Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent have said the Fed should cut rates.

A week’s worth of wet weather — including much of Saturday — has given way to relatively dry conditions as the 2025 Pittsburgh Marathon prepares to kick off at 7 a.m. Sunday. More than 45,000 people were expected to participate in marathon festivities Saturday and Sunday, with runners hailing from 19 countries — and their ages ranging from 5 months to 87 years. It’s the 17th Pittsburgh Marathon since it restarted in 2009 following years off the map because of financial issues.

CHICAGO — Over the past few weeks, Greta Reich, editor-in-chief of Stanford University’s student newspaper, has had almost two dozen requests to take down quotes, bylines, photos and opinion articles from current and former sources and writers. She and her staff at the Stanford Daily have been reviewing them on a case-by-case basis. “It’s a number that has been startling to see,” Ms. Reich said. Other student journalists on college campuses across the country are fielding similar requests.

Leftover storm damage won’t hamper the Pittsburgh full and half marathons on Sunday, officials said at a marathon weekend kick-off event Friday, and the weather, medical professionals said, will be close to perfect. “We’re expecting pretty optimal conditions for running this weekend — it’s excellent,” said Dr. Lenny Weiss, the marathon’s medical director. The scattered rain forecast to hit throughout Sunday morning will “be a great natural cooling opportunity,” Dr. Weiss said.
