While patrol rifles undoubtedly have their place, the shotgun, when properly configured, is still a viable and effective tool. Does it replace a patrol rifle? Not necessarily. The RCR is an enclosed emitter optic, like the Aimpoint Acro, Steiner MPS, and others. Most of the optics on long guns – carbines, shotguns, and sub-guns – are tubular, like a traditional scope. That has not been the case with the miniature backup optics that developed into the common pistol-mounted optics of today.
