School board OKs Leah Watkins contract renewal

The Henry County Board of Education wants four more years from its current director of schools. At its April meeting, the board unanimously approved a motion to renew the contract of Leah Watkins until June 2029. Board chairman Russ Orr said Watkin’s current contract was set to expire in June 2028. With the system currently engaged in several long-term project, Orr suggested offering her a new four-year contract to see those projects through.

Dispatchers to get AI help on alarm calls

Henry County 911 dispatchers will be getting some help fielding non-emergency alarm calls with the help of artificial intelligence. The county’s 911 board agreed Monday to purchase two add-ons for its RapidSOS software. The existing software allows dispatchers to pinpoint 911 callers through satellite technology. One of the new packages will automate calls from alarm security companies.

Rescue Squad is ready to roll

A crew from Adams Construction of Murray guides a section of the new Seven Brew coffee shop Tuesday morning at the Kroger Shopping Center in Paris. Site work began in January for the drive-through coffee and energy drink business, which hopes to be open in about three or four weeks, according to Jessica Crouch, Paris community development director.
