PLEASANTON, Calif. (KGO) -- Bay Area residents are getting a taste of summer-like heat Friday. Temperatures are projected to reach up to 104 degrees in some parts. We stopped by Pleasanton as residents brace for the first truly excessive temperatures of the year. Lisa Miller set out more fans at the Workbench TrueValue Hardware in downtown Pleasanton, where temperatures are expected to hit the high 90s Friday. But the manager said the really popular items are the hats.

OAKLAND, Calif. (KGO) -- Comedian and commentator W. Kamau Bell made a special visit to Castlemont High School in Oakland on Thursday, fresh off his Celebrity Jeopardy win. Bell announced DonorsChoose as the recipient of the $1 million prize to the charity of his choice. It is a fundraising platform similar to GoFundMe that many teachers use to purchase stuff for their classrooms. Many teachers in Oakland use the platform.

SAN FRANCISCO (KGO) -- Move over pickleball. Another racket sport is gaining popularity around the world: padel. "It's new. It's fun. It's competitive," padel enthusiast Christina Minju said. Minju is a regular at Park Padel in South San Francisco. "People in the league say pickleball is a hobby, padel is a sport," Minju said. Padel, which combines elements of squash and tennis, is played in courts about a third smaller than tennis and surrounded by clear walls.
