In general, fireworks will be allowed in high-density areas like downtown Heber and Midway but prohibited on the outskirts of town and in the unincorporated county. Wasatch Fire District Fire Marshall Clint Neerings said the map of restrictions is designed to prevent open flames or sparks in the areas most at risk of wildfire. “This map in the county area does follow the wildland urban interface map that has the highest propensity for a large-loss fire,” he said.

This year, Deer Valley’s last day coincided with the Easter holiday, and some skiers showed up in style to celebrate both occasions. Children sported rabbit ears on their helmets and an Easter Bunny roved the mountain taking family photos. Gwen Dudick and her friend, who only gave her name as Chicken, sat enjoying the sunshine outside Silver Lake Lodge, Dudick wearing a homemade Easter bonnet piled high with flowers and a plush rabbit on top.

The Heber City Council moved quickly to add e-bike rules to the books after Midway leaders proposed county-wide regulations to curb reckless riders. At a meeting Tuesday, April 15, Heber City Manager Matt Brower said recent incidents on the trails have made clear the need for new rules. “About two weeks ago, there was, as I understand it, a juvenile who was using an e-motorcycle on a backcountry, soft-surface trail, damaging the trail,” he said.

Heber City used ranked choice voting in 2021 and 2023, but this November, it will return to traditional ballots. Councilmembers said they voted to go back to conventional elections in large part because they heard so much feedback from locals opposing ranked ballots. Councilmember Scott Phillips said people on both sides of the debate cared about the future of Heber. At first, he was interrupted by boos from residents in the chamber who opposed ranked choice voting.
