After spending the weekend on lockdown to protect against a gunman who shot two Democratic Minnesota state lawmakers and their spouses, one couple fatally, U.S. Sen. Amy Klobuchar says she has words for Utah Sen. Mike Lee and his reaction to the killings. The clock is ticking for Gov. Spencer Cox to decide whether to call a special election this year so voters can decide whether to repeal a law that bans public employee unions from negotiating contracts with their government employers. If no special session is called, the issue will appear before voters during the 2026 midterm elections. The governor says he's still weighing his options ahead of a June 21 deadline to decide.

Gov. Spencer Cox said Tuesday that he supports President Donald Trump's decision to deploy National Guard troops to quell protests in Southern California and warned that anyone in Utah who instigates violence will be held accountable. "I want Utah to be the best pace in the United States to protest," Cox said during a news conference. "I also want Utah to be the worst possible place to riot.

Summit County * From the back porch of Jen McCaffrey's cabin, tucked into an aspen grove high above the Kamas Valley, the town of Oakley can be seen to the north. At the south end of her property, the snow-dusted Mt. Timpanogos peeks over the distant ridgelineA cow and her calf munch on the green late-spring foliage with a wary eye before ambling back into the trees. McCaffrey bought her 80-acre parcel back in 2000. It is off the grid, powered by solar power and a generator.

Gov. Spencer Cox appointed Lonny Pehrson, who previously served as government records counsel for the Utah Attorney General's Office, as the first director of the state's new Government Records Office. Cox made the announcement and praised Pehrson in a statement released Monday. "We look forward to the Government Records Office streamlining the appeals process and helping Utahns get timely answers to their records requests," the governor said.
