AUSTIN (KXAN) - Just weeks after South by Southwest ended, construction has already begun on the new Austin Convention Center. Austin leaders hosted an official event Thursday. "Today is the official closure of the Austin Convention Center. We are unveiling Unconventional ATX, which is the new Austin Convention Center project," said Trisha Tatro, director of the Austin Convention Center Department. The city of Austin first released renderings of the new space earlier this year.

AUSTIN (KXAN) - More than $60 million in federal funding previously set aside to help connect Texas cities through high-speed rail, is being nixed, according to a news release from Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy. The Amtrak Texas High-Speed Rail Corridor project would have connected Houston and Dallas. Duffy says the projected cost of that connection ballooned to more than $40 billion. KXAN has reached out to Amtrak and will update this story when we get a response.

AUSTIN (KXAN) - During a regional housing summit Friday, Austin Mayor Kirk Watson flexed on adjustments made by the city of Austin to allow for more affordable housing. Over the past few years Austin has made significant changes to its land development code, including: reducing minimum lot size requirements, allowing for more units to be built on a single-family lot and eliminating parking requirements.
