    The final prospect of a public inquiry into the planned £25 million Laurencekirk flyover on the A90 has been lifted. Campaigners hope it will finally see work begin at the Dundee to Aberdeen dual carriageway blackspot. For 20 years they have fought for a grade-separated junction at the A937 crossing to Marykirk and Montrose. Local woman Jill Fotheringham launched the campaign after a fatality there. Aberdeenshire Council confirmed the sole objection to supplementary draft orders has been withdrawn.

    Approval has been given to a caravan and campsite upgrade in the grounds of a former Angus jail. The campsite is already in place at Gardeners Cottage on what was previously Noranside open prison estate. It was initially set up as a five-pitch facility under a Camping and Caravanning Club exemption certificate in 2019. Angus Council planning officials have now granted change of use permission under delegated powers which will lift the ‘members only’ status.

    Montrose has officially named its new inshore lifeboat in memory of a lifelong supporter of the charity with a love of the sea. The D-class Margaret Olive arrived on station in January. Margaret Olive has already been launched to eight callouts. It joins the all-weather Shannon-class RNLB Ian Grant Smith at Montrose. On Saturday, the town station staged a service of dedication for the new lifeboat.
