    Salida School District R-32-J Board of Education met for a two hour meeting April 8 in Salida, where they held three discussions on items that were approved on second reading, including section I of the policy book’s changes, the operational wishlist, and teacher salary steps. Board President Joe Smith and Board Vice President Jodi Breckenridge-Petit were absent. Board member Matt Hobbs ran the meeting.

    Salida School District R-32-J Board of Education held a tour of Horizons Exploratory Academy’s new home at 627 Oak St. April 8, prior to the regular meeting of the board. Board members Ben Hill, Mandy Paschall and Jenn Schuchman were present, as was Superintendent David Blackburn. The tour was led by Construction Superintendent Casey Wood with Diesslin Structures, Inc., and started on what has been the dirt lot on the Illinois Avenue side of the building.

    Chaffee County commissioners held a regular meeting April 8 in Salida where they heard updates and discussed multiple grant opportunities and recommendations. To start the meeting, commissioners heard a public comment from Cheryl Hardy-Moore, vice president of Salida Aspen Concerts, who expressed concern to commissioners about being able to host a medal-winning pianist at Salida High School the weekend before school starts in August.

    Salida School District R-32-J Board of Education will meet for a walk-through of the construction progress at Horizons Exploratory Academy’s new home on Oak Street, as well as a regular meeting, starting at 5:30 p.m. April 8. There are no discussion items listed on the agenda, and a number of policies are being altered or repealed on the consent agenda.
