The powerful bond between dogs and inmates, and the positive impact they have on each other, was recently portrayed in “Nothing Safer,” a documentary now streaming on PBS.org and the PBS app. The film highlights the Prison-Trained K-9 Companion Program, which began in 2002 at the Colorado Women’s Correctional Facility in Cañon City and has since expanded to six facilities.

As a longtime resident of Cañon City, I’ve grown up cherishing the parks, trails, and programs of our Recreation District. From playing baseball and volleyball as a kid, to watching my own children’s youth sports teams, and walking the Riverwalk with friends, I’ve seen how recreation brings us together. I’m running for the Recreation District Board to ensure every family, senior, and neighbor continues to have access to vibrant, affordable recreation — without breaking the bank.
