    Ethan Sandoval, 35, of Arizona died after his packraft capsized on the Arkansas River in Buena Vista June 6. A June 7 press release from Colorado Parks and Wildlife reported that Sandoval and a friend both capsized their crafts. The friend was able to swim to shore while Sandoval reportedly became unconscious after flipping.

Standing in the shallows at its tail-out, I looked across to the far bank where the water flowed deep, a narrow concentration of current at the head spreading and dissipating as the glide broadened.
