Rancho Cotate’s baseball team continued its historic postseason run with another thrilling win Friday on the road at Carmel and will now have a chance to bring home the first Northern California title in program history this weekend. The third-seeded Cougars (18-13) scored four runs in the top of the sixth inning and held off a last-ditch comeback effort by the second-seeded Padres (21-11) for the 6-5 victory in the NorCal Division III semifinals.

Fresh off winning the fifth state title of her prep career last week, Montgomery’s Hanne Thomsen began a busy postseason schedule with another record-setting performance Thursday night at the prestigious HOKA Festival of Miles in St. Louis, Missouri. Thomsen finished second in the girls’ championship mile race with a time of 4 minutes, 35.63 seconds, which converts to a 4:34.03 1,600-meter time.

No. 2 Cardinal Newman 5, No. 7 Calaveras 1The Cardinals picked up their first-ever win in the NorCal playoffs on Tuesday, defeating the visiting Red Hawks behind another gem from starting pitcher Callie Howard. The senior righty struck out 11 with no walks and allowed just two hits with an earned run to give Cardinal Newman (23-6) its 16 th win in a row.

Rancho Cotate returned to form on Tuesday in its first-ever NorCal Regional playoff game. After falling in the North Coast Section Division 2 title game over the weekend, the Cougars refocused and took down Kingsburg 7-2 on Tuesday in their NorCal Division 3 opener in Rohnert Park. It’s the first-ever NorCal win in program history for the third-seeded Cougars (17-13), who will continue their longest postseason run in program history will continue Friday at 2 seed Carmel in the semifinals.
