The Vine Valley Athletic League softball pennant is returning to Petaluma’s east side. For the second time in three years, Casa Grande clinched the league title, beating defending champion Vintage 9-4 with another strong offensive game Friday in Petaluma. The Gauchos (18-5-1, 11-0) and Crushers (13-6, 5-3) have battled as the top two teams in the league over the last three years, but Casa has so far had their number this spring.

Montgomery High School has found its new head football coach. Anthony Bautista, a 2014 graduate of the school, has taken over the position. This will be Bautista's first official varsity head coaching job. He has prior coaching experience as an assistant coach at Lincoln High School in Tacoma, Washington, and most recently at Elsie Allen. He replaces Vertis Patton, who stepped down at the end of last season after leading the program for the past seven years.
