Residents and business owners in the north-eastern region are counting losses, following a blackout occasioned by the construction of a 330kV Turn-In and Turn-Out towers at the new Bauchi 330kV substation transmission lines. Recall that the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) notified electricity Distribution Companies (DisCos) serving the six states in the North-east that there would be blackout in the region while some places would witness significant drop in the supply of electricity.

Plan International, a humanitarian organisation that advances children's rights and equality for girls in over 80 countries, has enrolled 7,000 out-of-school children in schools in three North Eastern states of Adamawa, Borno and Yobe. The Project Coordinator of Plan International, Mr Gambo Daniel, disclosed this to newsmen at the end of a workshop organised by Plan International in collaboration with Save the Children and Education Cannot Wait held in Damaturu, Yobe State.

At least three people were killed while 7 sustained injuries after a building collapsed due to heavy downpour in Nangere Local Government area of Yobe State. Daily Trust reports that the tragedy occurred at Tsohon Gari in Nangere Local Government Headquarters this weekend. It was gathered that over 50 houses were destroyed, rendering several families homeless. Shuwa Adamu a resident of the community, told Daily Trust that the torrential rain was accompanied by wind.

The Yobe State Government has established four new sesame clearing and packaging industries in Machina, Nguru, Potiskum and Damaturu LGAs to promote the production of quality and valuable seeds. The state's Deputy Governor, Hon Idi Barde Gubana, disclosed this in an interview with newsmen in his office at the government house, Damaturu.

The Nigerian Medical Association (NMA), Yobe State Chapter, has refused to join the nationwide strike by the Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC) which began on Monday over the N60,000 new minimum wage proposed by the federal government. Dr Abubakar Kawu Mai Mala, the NMA Chairman in the state, stated this while briefing newsmen in Damaturu on the ongoing strike action.
