By Hamish Cardwell of RNZA man is facing charges for indecent assault and breaching extended supervision in Upper Hutt, after reports of suspicious behaviour in recent months. The man lives at “outside the wire” facility Te Korowai in the grounds of Rimutaka Prison and is subject to an extended supervision order, including an evening curfew (9pm to 7am). Corrections has been granted resource consent to expand the facility.

A Wellington musician convicted of rape can now be named as Martin Ditlhabi. He was found guilty in November of one charge of rape in a retrial - after previously being cleared of other sexual assault charges - and sentenced to three years and nine months in prison.

The infrastructure sector says the government's move to increase its adoption of user-pays funding for infrastructure is a bold and necessary step, but a Green councillor says it somewhat misses the point. Infrastructure Minister Chris Bishop told Morning Report on Friday there is a large infrastructure deficit. He is eying congestion fees, and greater use of road tolls, water metres and public-private partnerships (PPPs).

The Ministry of Health has confirmed a loss of 123 roles at the ministry as part of the coalition government's cost-cutting measures. The PSA union said this equates to one in six positions at the ministry being cut. This means nine fewer jobs will go than what was indicated by the government in April. Some of the roles going were already vacant. About 250 jobs were being disestablished and 100 would have minor changes (for example the lines that some staff report to).
