(WANE) – A former sheriff in Monona County, Iowa came to the rescue earlier this week when the Indiana Tech women’s basketball team got stuck in a blizzard on the way to a tournament. The athletes were on their way to compete in the NAIA women’s basketball national championship in Sioux City when a snowstorm erupted and they were stranded on Interstate 29 in Onawa, Iowa.

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WANE) — Heartland Cavalier Connection Inc. opened its hypothetical doors in December. The nonprofit rescue doesn’t have a building, it puts dogs in foster homes until they find a “fur-ever” family. According to the Heartland Cavalier Connection website, the mission of the Fort Wayne-based rescue is to strive to provide compassionate care, foster lifelong connections, and educate the community about responsible pet ownership.

ALLEN COUNTY, Ind. (WANE) — Citizens expressed their concerns at the Allen County Plan Commission on Jan. 16 about traffic if a new housing development is approved on Bass Road. The new project in question is a proposed multi-family, for-rent townhome development called The Promontory. If approved, The Promontory will feature 172 units in 43 buildings. There will be single-story and two-story townhome options targeted toward families and older residents.

(WANE)—The Allen County Public Library has partnered with the Fair Housing Center of Central Indiana to create a new exhibit, “Unwelcome: A Fair Housing History of Sales and Lending Discrimination.” The exhibit, which opened this month, aims to draw attention to the intersection of housing discrimination and racism throughout history. It does that through historical documents, new stories, and QR codes.
