FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WANE) – A man died Friday after the motorcycle he was riding crashed with a box truck on the city’s north side, the Fort Wayne Police Department confirmed. Police at the scene of a motorcycle crash at Parnell Avenue and Spy Run Avenue ExitEmergency crews responded to the scene near the intersection of Parnell Avenue and Spy Run Avenue Extended around 2:30 p.m.A WANE 15 crew at the scene saw a body covered in a sheet next to the truck.

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WANE) – A storied establishment on State Boulevard is reopening in May. Most recently known as Nick’s Martini and Wine Bar, the joint has stood vacant for the past 10 years. Upon its reopening, it will just be named “Nick’s”, as many loyal customers already call it. According to a press release from the owners, the opening is set for May 1.
Columbia City sex offender faces child porn charges

COLUMBIA CITY, Ind. (WANE) – A Columbia City man who was already know to be a sex offender was arrested Wednesday after police discovered he was allegedly in possession of child porn. A tip from the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children led Indiana State Police detectives to search a home near East Hickory Circle and County Road 600 East. Police then arrested Derek Gaff, 44, on three Level 5 felony counts and three Level 6 felony counts of possession of child pornography.

Senator Banks introduces bill to expand child tax credit

WASHINGTON (WANE) – Senator Jim Banks (R-Ind.) introduced a bill last week that would expand the child tax credit, including a new one for pregnant women, in an effort to support families. The Family First Act would increase the credit to $4,200 for kids under 6 years old and $3,000 for children older than that, according to a press release from Banks’ office. That covers up to six children per family. Another tax credit of $2,800 would go to pregnant mothers beginning at 20 weeks of pregnancy.

(WANE) – A man was arrested Monday and faces charges in a shooting on Hobson Road that left one man dead and another in life-threatening condition. Shontrel Bright, 33, is now being held in the Allen County Jail, according to a release from the Fort Wayne Police Department. Bright is accused of murder and attempted murder in a Sunday shooting in the 2100 block of Hobson Road.

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WANE) – A man accused of shooting a man and a child at a Fort Wayne apartment complex in 2024 was sentenced Monday. Na Sit, 43, was handed 22 years in prison. The Fort Wayne Police Department began investigating the shooting on May 22, 2024 in the Autumn Woods apartment complex off South Anthony Boulevard. Officers at the scene found a man and a child with non-life-threatening gunshot wounds.
Less-lethal firearm maker based in Fort Wayne opens local retailer

Byrna has already been making its products in Fort Wayne, but recently opened a retailer in the area as well. The concept behind the weapons is to employ self-defense without lethal force. Samuel Letherer, training manager who also leads a Nashville location, demonstrated how to use the company’s launcher: The launcher has a 60-feet range.
