    Gov. Josh Stein recently led an effort to send a letter signed by 23 governors to congressional leadership, calling for continued support of the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP). The letter, sent on Tuesday, follows the federal budget bill making its way through Congress, which among other things, includes cuts to SNAP and Medicaid. Earlier this month, Stein sent a letter to U.S. Senators Thom Tillis and Ted Budd laying out the consequences of those cuts for North Carolina families.

    New from EdNC The Editor’s Notes On Monday, Senate lawmakers transformed House Bill 125 into a 44-page “mini-budget” bill. Among other things, the bill includes enrollment growth funds for public schools and community colleges, authorization of step pay increases for teachers, and implementation of certain salary adjustments. The bill does not include any new pay increases. Stay tuned.
