Elizabeth Shaffer, a teacher at the David City High School for 15 years and principal of the high school for the past eight years, will leave David City. She will teach English in the Omaha High School of Commerce in the coming school year.

    OMAHA — More than 40% of the deaths linked to the coronavirus in Nebraska have been at nursing homes, but the overall rate of deaths in the state's nursing homes has remained relatively low compared with national figures. A total of 185 deaths linked to the virus have been confirmed at nursing homes in the state, which reported 442 deaths overall as of Sunday. A federal database shows that 31 of the more than 200 nursing homes in the state have reported deaths linked to the coronavirus.

    Every day for the past 50 years, someone in the Doehling family has dutifully reported river observations in Surprise for the National Weather Service. In the Cooperative Observer Program (Coop), volunteers across the country take observations on farms, in both urban and suburban areas, national parks, seashores and mountain tops. Since the National Weather Service relies on these observers, the organization has an awards program honoring the observers’ efforts.

Having recently completed another Curriculum for AgriScience Education (CASE) training, she said she hopes will be further beneficial to her ag classes. The CASE Institute is a professional development workshop that provides teachers training for the instruction of a specific CASE course.
