CONCORD — Police officers shouted several warnings at a man and fired shots at him while he refused to drop a large sharp kitchen knife he was using to stab his father, police said and videos released by the department showed. It all happened on Feb. 18, when officers shot and killed 47-year-old Nathan Keesler, of Antioch. Police said that Keesler attacked his father at a home in the 1900 block of Natoma Boulevard. Police were called to the home about 1:40 a.m. by Keesler’s mother.

FREMONT — An apartment fire in Fremont left a Manteca woman dead after she dangled from a fourth-floor balcony to escape the blaze before plummeting to the ground below, eyewitnesses and authorities said on Monday. The Sunday fire, which remains under investigation, killed 54-year-old Charlotte Holguin and critically injured a man who also dropped from a fourth-floor balcony, authorities said. Two other people were injured in the incident, authorities said, though it is unclear how they were hurt.

OAKLAND — A rare shooting in the Oakland Hills early Wednesday hospitalized a man, authorities said. The gunfire happened about 9:10 a.m. in the 1900 block of Cortereal Avenue in the Montclair District, authorities said. An ambulance took the man to a hospital. Authorities did not have an update on his condition. According to police, the man was walking and perhaps was headed toward his home on another street a short distance away.

Of the three other people hospitalized, one remained in critical condition Monday afternoon, she said. Authorities did not identify the dead person immediately, pending notification of relatives and the status of the investigation.
