BERKELEY — The North Berkeley BART station was closed Monday morning while authorities investigated a report of a person possibly hit by a train. About 10:32 a.m. Monday BART officials said the station was closed and the Richmond line shut down in both directions due to a medical emergency and preliminary information was that “a person entered the trackway and a collision may have occurred with a train.”The person was removed from the trackway and taken to a hospital, BART said.

OAKLAND — A woman was killed and a man injured in a head-on traffic collision early Sunday in East Oakland that appears to have been alcohol related, police said. The name of the woman killed, a 28-year-old Oakland resident, was not immediately released. The collision happened about 2:40 a.m. Sunday in the 6300 block of San Leandro Street. Police said the woman was driving a Honda Civic eastbound in the westbound traffic lanes when it collided head-on with a Ford cargo van that was going westbound.

BERKELEY — One man was killed, another man was injured and six residents were displaced in a two-alarm fire Wednesday morning at an apartment building, authorities said. The name of the man killed was not immediately released. The fire erupted about 8:25 a.m. Wednesday at a three-story apartment building in the 2500 block of College Avenue in the Elmwood district. Fire officials said a caller told them one resident might be trapped inside.

BERKELEY — More than 20 felony counts have been filed against a since-dismissed Berkeley private school music teacher suspected of illegal sexual activity with an underage student committed over several months, according to authorities and court records. The suspect, Jason Hoopes, 49, of El Cerrito, who was arrested last week, is being held on $495,000 bail at Santa Rita Jail. He is scheduled to enter a plea on June 11.
