BERKELEY - A person entered BART trackways on Monday morning and was later taken away in an ambulance, an incident that caused a major delay on of its transit lines, officials said. According to BART officials, the person went onto the tracks at the North Berkeley station about 10 a.m. and "may have been involved in a collision with a train," BART spokesperson Chris Filippi said.

A person who appears to have been walking on a freeway died early Friday after being hit by a vehicle, the California Highway Patrol said. The fatal collision happened around 5:15 a.m. and shut down all northbound lanes of the Highway 101 connector to Interstate 280 in San Francisco, according to the agency. The CHP issued a Sig Alert for severe traffic that remained in effect past 7 a.m.Authorities did not identify the dead person immediately.

An overnight fire in Crockett on Thursday scorched about six acres, fire officials said. Fire crews from Crockett, Rodeo, and El Cerrito responded to the blaze and stopped its forward progress about 4 a.m., according to a statement from the Crockett-Carquinez Fire Department. Cal Fire and East Bay Regional Parks fire crews also assisted. The blaze broke out near San Pablo Avenue and Old County Road. The fire did not cause any injuries or burn any structures.
