ODU played its first football game in 69 years that day, defeating Division II Chowan before a sellout crowd at old Foreman Field. Hours before kickoff, thousands of cars, SUV’s and trucks appeared in designated tailgate parking lots as if by magic. ODU fans had precious little tailgating experience.

As public address announcer Jack Ankerson was recounting the final score – ODU 9, Troy 5 – Ankerson also told the crowd that the victory was Finwood’s 400th at ODU.

At halftime of ODU’s nationally televised victory over Georgia Southern, more than 350 drones rose behind the Atlantic Bay Football Complex and for nine minutes, put on a show unlike any seen in Hampton Roads.

Ballard Stadium. The Monarchs open at Indiana, a College Football Playoff participant last season, on Aug. 31, and then host North Carolina Central a week later on Sept. 6. And while N.C. Central is an FCS school, the Eagles have a rich history.
