Collapsed church repair was 'mission impossible'

Repairs to a church which partially collapsed five years ago are nearly finished, stonemasons say. The tower at St John the Baptist Church, in High Toynton near Horncastle, fell down in January 2020. Stonemasons said the job "looked like mission impossible" when they first started work last year. The work was part-funded by a £200,000 National Lottery Heritage Fund grant along with money raised by the village.
Flood bosses 'care more about voles' than people, MP

The MP for a town affected by flooding has said the Environment Agency cares more about "badgers and water voles" than about flood victims. Richard Tice, the Reform MP for Boston and Skegness, said there were "serious questions" to be asked of the agency in charge of flood prevention. His comments came after around 40 homes were flooded in Wyberton, on the outskirts of Boston.

A mother has told of her family's dismay after floodwater surged through their home. Emma Woolley, who lives in Belton Lane, Grantham, said the water had caused extensive damage to the property. She said the water had entered the house from the back and was probably about 8in (20cm) up the wall at its worst. As well as the damage to the house, she said some of her two-year-old daughter's Christmas presents, including a doll's house, had been ruined.

A nightclub in Boston has said it will ban people who "made it harder" for staff as they tried to resuscitate a customer. Brown's Cocktails, on Dolphin Lane, closed early on Saturday after a "medical emergency". In a statement, the venue said staff were "disappointed" with the behaviour of a "minority of people" during the incident. A spokesperson for the venue said the customer was taken to hospital but they were unaware of their condition. The BBC has contacted Lincolnshire Police for comment.

Owners of a wildlife park have said they are "devastated" after the death of popular Bengal tiger Dehra. The 16-year-old died earlier after she was discovered to be suffering from kidney failure. Along with her three cubs, she was the first tiger to arrive at Lincolnshire Wildlife Park near Boston, Lincolnshire, in 2014, after being rehomed from a private collection.

Three kittens have been found abandoned in a cardboard box in a Lincolnshire park. Dog-walkers discovered the trio, thought to be about 10 weeks old, in North Hykeham on Friday. They were handed in to Lincoln Cat Care, which said they had already had people asking to adopt the kittens. The charity said owners abandoning their pets was becoming a "regular occurrence".

More than 500 children have been left with nowhere to play football after an artificial pitch was closed last week. Greenbank FC, which runs 46 youth football teams in North Hykeham, said they were told at short notice the surface they use at One NK Leisure Centre was "unsafe".
