The chief executive of Toby Carvery has issued an apology for "the upset that it has caused" following the controversial removal of a 400-year-old oak tree outside one of its London restaurants. The ancient tree, located in Whitewebbs Park, in Enfield, was chopped down on April 3 after Mitchells & Butlers, the company that owns Toby Carvery, received advice from specialists claiming the tree was dying and posed a danger to the public.

Greenpeace activists have scaled a building outside the Foreign Office in protest over delays to signing an international treaty protecting oceans. Four protesters unfurled a banner as they suspended themselves on columns on the King Charles Street Archway in Westminster early on Thursday morning. The group called for faster action from Foreign Secretary David Lammy in signing the Global Ocean Treaty, with the banner showing a turtle with the words "Lammy don't dally!".

Heathrow Airport was warned about its power supply in the days before it closed because of an outage, MPs were told. Nigel Wicking, chief executive of Heathrow Airline Operators Committee, which represents airlines that use the west London airport, said there were a "couple of incidents" which made him concerned.

British Airways has warned its services will be severely impacted over the coming days after the closure of Heathrow Airport. Chief executive Sean Doyle described the situation as "unprecedented", with more than 100,000 of its customers on board some 670 flights being affected on Friday. Europe's busiest airport suffered a power outage after a fire broke out at a nearby electrical substation in Hayes, West London.
