2.1. Source of materials NaF was obtained in polycrystalline form (Thermo Scientific ≥99% ACS reagent grade). The sample was thoroughly dried under vacuum at 333 K for 5−6 h before use. Halocarbon oil 11-14, which was used as a hydrostatic medium, was obtained from Halocarbon Product Corporation and used as supplied; the label on the stock is available in Fig. S1 of the supporting information. The properties of this medium have been described in more detail by Motaln et al. (2025).

The 2023 CCP4 Study Weekend was held as a hybrid event between the 4th and 6th of January at the East Midlands Conference Centre in Nottingham. The theme was `data', but we organisers wished to broaden the scope beyond that of a typical Study Weekend devoted to crystallographic data.

Training Mask R-CNN networks to detect objects in experimental micrographs Initial experiments used gradient-weighted class-activation mapping (Grad-CAM; Selvaraju et al., 2017) to locate regions of the image where CHiMP Classifier v1 was being activated when predicting the `Crystals' class. However, the low resolution of the output maps (16 × 16 pixels) meant that this technique was not able to provide a positional accuracy that was high enough for our purposes.

Experimental proceduresS (99.9%), (98%), LiCl (98%), and LiBr (99.98%) with stoichiometric ratios were mixed and ground in an agate mortar and transferred to air-tight ball-milling jars. The mixtures were mechanically milled at 750 rpm for 16 h, then pelletized and annealed for 10 h at various temperatures ranging from 375°C to 550°C. The final products can be collected by grinding the pellets. All the processes were conducted in argon-filled gloveboxes.

A recent experimental study of TbB4 at a low temperature using resonant x-ray Bragg diffraction implies a magnetic symmetry not found in any other rare-earth tetraboride. The evidence for this assertion is a change in the intensity of a TbB4 Bragg spot on reversing the handedness (chirality) of the primary x-ray beam [R. Misawa, K. Arakawa, T. Yoshioka, H. Ueda, F. Iga, K. Tamasaku, Y. Tanaka, and T. Kimura, Phys. Rev. B 108, 134433 (2023)].

Web-CONEXS has been conceived and implemented with the non-specialist user in mind. Its target is to provide support for users with limited or no experience of simulation and HPC to gain experience which can subsequently be transferred to independent use of HPC. It is not expected to be used by researchers with experience in the simulation of materials using electronic structure-based approaches or for detailed analysis of data.

It is an ongoing challenge for X-ray beamlines to provide both high flux and high resolving power (E/ΔE) in the tender X-ray range (1–5 keV). In recent years, several X-ray facilities have developed active research programmes concerning multilayer gratings, as their efficiencies are typically an order of magnitude larger than those of single-layer coated gratings in the tender X-ray range (Choueikani et al., 2014; Voronov et al., 2016; Sokolov et al., 2019).
