(WRIC) — Reaction is pouring in after President Joe Biden announced that Israel and Hamas had finally reached a ceasefire agreement after 15 months of devastation in the region. 8News spoke to Richmond-area leaders in both the Jewish and Palestinian communities, who voiced how the announcement is bittersweet. Since Oct. 7, 2023, about 1,200 Israelis and over 46,000 Palestinians — the latter mostly women and children — have been killed.

Back to where it all began, four women who served in the U.S. Army Reserve’s 80th division return for the first time in decades. The group first met in 1979 inside what is now the training command headquarters in Richmond. Ruby Lewis and Glynes Cheatham were the first to meet, then came Miriam Mccray.

(WRIC) — As part of 8News’ Fighting Fentanyl series, we’re taking a closer look at the resources available to those battling addiction with two programs focused on recovery. “Heroin and fentanyl have such a strong grip on you. It’s like a vice. I called it my demon,” said South Boston native Jasmine Lovelace. Unable to shake the grip of drug addiction, Lovelace went from college to incarceration until finally she was ready for recovery.

(WRIC) — Primary Election Day is Tuesday, June 18 in Virginia, polls will open at 6 a.m. and close at 7 p.m. in Richmond. Voters just need to bring their ID to the polls with them. If you don’t have a driver’s license, you’ll need to have some form of identification that has your address on it for a poll worker to verify.
