Jack Miller nearly collapsed at an urgent care center after spiking a fever of 105 degrees one morning in early 2020. What the Newnan commercial airline pilot thought was merely a bad cold or the flu turned out to be far more serious. After being rushed to an emergency room, medical tests revealed Miller, who was 51 at the time, was suffering from acute myeloid leukemia, or AML. Doctors told him the only thing that could save his life was a bone marrow transplant.
