Bakhresa Food Products Limited (BFPL), a subsidiary of the Bakhresa Group, has launched a major expansion of its soft drinks factory in Mwandege in the city, aiming to double production and meet growing demand. The $500 million (approximately Sh1.3 trillion) investment will increase the factory’s daily output from 150,000 cartons to 300,000 cartons. The project, spanning 17 hectares, is part of the company’s 50th anniversary celebrations and is expected to be completed next year.

Online ticketing service providers who fail to integrate their systems with the government’s platforms risk being banned from operating from July 1, 2025, the Land Transport Regulatory Authority (Latra) has announced. In a statement issued yesterday, Latra said that all ticketing systems must be connected to the Latra Travel Ticketing System and the Tanzania Revenue Authority’s Electronic Fiscal Device Management System (EFDMS) by the deadline.

Stakeholders in the transport sector are calling for greater investment in modern technology and safer, more inclusive road designs in response to a worrying surge in road traffic accidents. The appeal follows President Samia Suluhu Hassan’s recent revelation that road accidents had increased by nine percent over the past four months compared to the same period last year. Between January and April 2025, a total of 1,322 accidents were recorded, resulting in 1,275 fatalities.
