The Old Vic has announced today they have raised a record total of £235,000 for local charity Waterloo Foodbank from audiences attending its Christmas production, writes Callum Smyth…Repeated year in year out the Waterloo theatre’s 2024 production of A Christmas Carol saw the highest total of in-person donations received from festive audiences yet. In 2023 alone, Waterloo Foodbank and its partners supported over 27,000 people, of which 17,500 were children.

Two pubs in South London have been featured in a prestigious ranking of the top gastropubs in the UK writes Issy ClarkeThe Camberwell Arms on Camberwell Church Street placed 38th in Estrella Damm’s 2025 Top 50 Gastropubs, while The Anchor & Hope in Waterloo made the extended list coming in at 51st. The Camberwell Arms, led by chef Mike Davies who also runs Frank’s Cafe in Peckham, was praised by organisers for its seasonal dishes and its house-made bread, ice cream, smoked fish and ferments.

Infectious disease rapid response teams have called off a strike at Guy’s and St Thomas’ hospitals. Unite the Union claimed suspending the industrial action, planned for Monday, January 27, until Friday, January 31, was a “goodwill gesture” while negotiations continue. Dozens of workers, who perform “ultra cleans” in the most highly infectious disease areas, were due to walk out over pay and conditions.
