    People who know me well know I have had an –let’s call it—infatuation with the actor George Clooney since I first discovered him on a show called E/R in 1985. Not that ER, but a different E/R (it starred Elliot Gould and lasted one season) and when he appeared on Facts of Life and then on Roseanne and later when the majority of the planet found him on that ER in 1994.

    My daughter, who is 30, called the other day to tell me she would like to be finished with “adulting.” “It’s hard,” she exclaimed. I agreed. Life is full of difficulties. Being an adult is not easy. Sometimes, it all feels senseless. The trick is finding something meaningful that makes it all worthwhile. And the old saying rings true: “Youth is wasted on the young.” It is no wonder we often look back with a sense of longing. When I was young, I simply could not wait to be an adult.

    I don’t know about you, but in my circle, there has been a lot of conversation around the topic of Social Security lately. Having celebrated another trip around the sun last month, I decided it might be a good idea to look at my account to see if it made any sense for me to begin collecting it now – which would be a smidge early – or to continue to trust in the durability of the system and let it play out (and payout) as intended.

    My birthday has come and gone since I last wrote. Another year older, but none the wiser! Celebrations took place prior to the actual date as I was out of town for business and celebrations took place out of town with friends and coworkers helping to make the day a happy one. I do love a good birthday celebration, but as I age, I have also come to appreciate time alone to contemplate and reflect.

    It is, inexplicably, already the end of January and I am at a loss – not for words, never that—but for an understanding of how so many bad things have already happened in 2025! I was not feeling especially hopeful as 2024 came to an end, but I was determined to begin the new year with an open mind.
