It's almost time for playoff hockey in the Queen City, as the Charlotte Checkers gear up for a matchup with the Providence Bruins. Led by head coach Geordie Kinnear, the Checkers won 44 games during the regular season, the most since 2018-19 and the third most in franchise history. Good for the No. 2 spot in the AHL's Atlantic Division, the Checkers (44-22-3-3) qualified for a first-round bye and enjoyed a near-two-week layoff before the postseason.

Saturday's "spring showcase" marked the 15th and final practice for first-year head football coach Tim Albin and the Charlotte 49ers, forgoing a traditional spring game and opening Richardson Stadium to fans for the final practice until training camp picks up in late July. With the Duke's Mayo Classic against Appalachian State at Bank of America Stadium roughly four months away, Charlotte is ramping up for one of the toughest schedules the young program has seen.
