Max Muncy tied the game at five-apiece with a two-RBI double, and Jack Dreyer pitched a scoreless frame in the ninth to set up Shohei Ohtani to walk off the Atlanta Braves. Ohtani hit a 399-foot home run to center field as the second batter in the ninth inning. It may just seem like an insignificant regular season game, but it is far from that.

About 4 minutes reading time. Following his induction to the Japanese Baseball Hall of Fame last week, Ichiro Suzuki is officially Cooperstown-bound. The legendary right fielder received 99.7 percent of votes by the Baseball Writers Association of America, falling just one vote shy of joining Mariano Rivera as the only other unanimous Hall of Famer. CC Sabathia, who played alongside Ichiro on the New York Yankees from 2012 to 2014, and Billy Wagner will join Ichiro in the 2025 class.

About 1 minute reading time. DALLAS (AP) — Dave Parker and Dick Allen were elected to baseball’s Hall of Fame on Sunday by the classic era committee. Parker received 14 of 16 votes and Allen got 13. A vote of 75% or more was needed for election. They will be inducted into the Hall of Fame on July 27 along with players voted in by the Baseball Writers’ Association of America, whose balloting will be announced on Jan. 21. Tommy John was third with seven votes.

(AP) — Hall of Fame players Paul Molitor, Eddie Murray, Tony Pérez, Lee Smith and Ozzie Smith are among 16 members of the classic era committee that will consider an eight-man Hall ballot that includes Dick Allen, Dave Parker and Luis Tiant. Retired manager Joe Torre, also elected to the Hall, is on the committee that convenes Sunday at the winter meetings in Dallas.
