LOS ANGELES (AP) — had quite a game on his bobblehead night. Two home runs, six runs. Then Jhonny Pereda . The Athletics’ backup catcher faced Ohtani in the eighth inning Thursday night. Pereda gave up three straight hits against the bottom of the Dodgers’ order. With Los Angeles leading 17-2, Ohtani came up with a chance to pile on. Pereda’s first four pitches to the Japanese superstar were between 62 and 68 mph. Ohtani took a called first strike and later fouled off another pitch.

Tanner Scott struck out three in a scoreless ninth to get a save Wednesday versus the Rockies. Scott did allow a hit, so it’s up to others to determine whether he struck out the side. Whether he did or not, it’s as good as Scott has looked as a Dodger, and he threw 11-of-11 pitches for strikes; impressive regardless, but especially for a pitcher who sometimes has issues with control. Scott should continue to see plenty of save chances for this loaded Dodgers’ club.

About 2 minutes reading time. Trailing by two going into the eighth inning, the Los Angeles Dodgers’ seven-game win streak was in jeopardy. Max Muncy tied the game at five-apiece with a two-RBI double, and Jack Dreyer pitched a scoreless frame in the ninth to set up Shohei Ohtani to walk off the Atlanta Braves. Ohtani hit a 399-foot home run to center field as the second batter in the ninth inning. It may just seem like an insignificant regular season game, but it is far from that.

About 2 minutes reading time. LOS ANGELES (AP) — Blake Snell won his Dodgers debut, Teoscar Hernández hit a three-run homer and Los Angeles defeated the Detroit Tigers 5-4 in its home opener Thursday. Shohei Ohtani launched his second home run of the season and scored twice for the Dodgers. Tommy Edman also went deep.
