Gov Sim Fubara of Rivers State has vowed to remain vigilant and steadfast to protect the state. The governor said such was highly needed to ensure that Rivers State with sensitive investment installations remained safe. The Armed Forces Remembrance Day is believed to be for the dead and maybe the weak and feeble soldiers that can hardly kill an ant. Now, Gov Sim Fubara wants heroes celebrated alive. He said it is more rewarding to celebrate the military and members of the security agencies for their contributions and sacrifices while they are alive, and not just when they are dead.

Rivers, a state that was used to N100bn to N120bn per year as internally generated revenue (IGR) is sure to have grossed about N300bn in 2024. The state is now expecting a minimum of N264bn in 2025. The governor, Sim Fubara, said in 2024, the state recorded N100bn in IGR above the expected N231bn estimated IGR for the year.

An unidentified expatriate has reportedly drowned in River Alesa in Eleme Local Council Area near Port Harcourt, Rivers State, while attempting to escape from kidnappers. The incident occurred between 8 and 10pm Monday, January 13, 2025. A crowd has massed along the Alesa Bridge close to Indorama Petrochemicals gate while divers have continued to search for the location of vehicle.
