Ecology and conservation rely on information about how species and ecosystems have changed over time to understand the magnitude and spatial heterogeneity of threats, to set targets for conservation planning, and to identify baselines for restoration (McNellie et al. 2020).

AbstractPike perch were transferred from an over-wintering net cage into recirculating aquaculture systems (RAS). Within a 21-day period, it was examined whether or not ectoparasites, here specifically a representative of the family of Trichodinidae that were naturally present on the fish, could be reduced or even eliminated from the fish by means of sodium chloride treatment (3 and 6 g NaCl/L).

Overfishing is one of the leading factors in the decline of fish populations in the oceans (Steneck and Pauly, 2019). Marine Protected Areas (MPAs) restrict resource exploitation, mainly fishing activities, to protect and restore marine ecosystems, and fish populations (Lester et al., 2009; Edgar et al., 2014). The MPA efficacy must be evaluated to establish and maintain effective management plans (Thiault et al., 2019).
