The West Australian Opposition has conceded that a newly-approved marine park on the south coast could impact its "ambitious" proposal to pipe water to the Goldfields region. The WA Nationals have pledged more than $100 million for a desalination plant in Esperance with a view to piping water to Kalgoorlie-Boulder if the party is elected on March 8.

One of Western Australia's biggest provincial racing clubs is on the brink of disaster, with its 2025 season likely to be abandoned due to a lack of recycled water to irrigate its turf racetrack. The Kalgoorlie-Boulder Racing Club has relied on recycled water from the local government for decades to keep its track green, in contrast to the red dirt that surrounds the historic mining city, 600km east of Perth.

The Shire of Coolgardie has confirmed long-time chief executive James Trail has been suspended, pending an investigation into allegations of workplace culture issues. Shire councillors voted for the suspension at a special council meeting on Thursday. The shire president says no allegations have been substantiated "at this time" and "all concerned parties" will have an opportunity to participate in the investigation.
