Ray tracing plays a vital role in black hole imaging, modeling the emission mechanisms of pulsars, and deriving signatures from physics beyond the Standard Model. In this work we focus on one specific application of ray tracing, namely, predicting radio signals generated from the resonant conversion of axion dark matter in the strongly magnetized plasma surrounding neutron stars.

It is likely that the Higgs potential of the Standard Model is unstable, turning negative at ϕ<Λ∼1010 GeV. Here we consider whether it is possible to have Higgs inflation on the positive stable region of the potential at ϕ<Λ. To do this we add a nonminimally coupled induced gravity sector with scalar χ to the Standard Model.

The new draft guidelines, if enacted in a form similar to the current draft, would represent a seismic shift in how the agencies approach antitrust merger investigations. They expand the types of transactions expected to result in additional scrutiny and lower the threshold for market shares that may be considered problematic.

Abstract Axion dark matter can be converted into photons in the magnetospheres of neutron stars leading to a spectral line centered on the Compton wavelength of the axion. Due to the rotation of the star and the plasma effects in the magnetosphere the signal is predicted to be periodic with significant time variation that persists across phase but is narrow in frequency—a unique smoking gun for axion dark matter.
