If approved, data centers would be strictly a conditional use in Chesterfield. Currently, data centers can be built by-right in some zoning districts, meaning that they don’t require a review by the Board of Supervisors to be built under those areas’ current zoning.

    Shortly after closing one of its Henrico stores, a local adult novelties chain has been acquired by an out-of-town company. Taboo, which has operated locally for decades, was sold earlier this month to Denver-based Romantix. The deal was confirmed by Josh Porter, vice president of operations at Progressive Retail Management, the parent company of Romantix. Included in the deal were Taboo’s retail locations at 6021 W. Broad St. in western Henrico and 5100 Midlothian Turnpike in South Richmond.

    The long-vacant former Nordstrom building at Short Pump Town Center has scored a new tenant. Dick’s Sporting Goods is teeing up a location of its relatively new experiential House of Sport concept for the dormant two-story, 120,000-square-foot department store at 11812 W. Broad St., according to recent filings submitted to Henrico.

    Amid its ongoing bankruptcy, Rite Aid is shutting down a long-running outpost at a prominent city crossroads. The drugstore chain’s location at 520 W. Broad St. in Richmond, which has operated for years at the corner of Broad and Belvidere streets, is slated to close. A store employee said Thursday it was anticipated to remain open until the end of the month. The location’s pharmacy has already closed. Signage stated that prescription records held there would be available at the Kroger at 901 N.

    A pair of Henrico shopping centers on either end of the county have come under new ownership. Staples Mill Plaza near Glen Allen and Laburnum Park Shopping Center in Montrose sold in recent weeks to firms new to the Richmond region. New York-based ShopOne bought Staples Mill Plaza in a $10 million deal recorded with the county in late May.
