    VCU Health has taken a ceremonial step forward in construction of an eight-figure project intended to further extend its reach in Chesterfield. The health system held a ground-breaking event Monday for its upcoming four-story, 100,000-square-foot medical facility near the intersection of Iron Bridge and Beach roads. The $89.9 million outpatient surgical center and medical office building, which is being called the Chesterfield Pavilion, is anticipated to start construction in the fall.

    VCU has eliminated jobs and changed its admissions process in response to recent federal directives to roll back diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI) and affirmative action standards. Nearly a quarter of the dozens of university positions that were reviewed for compliance with the new federal mandates were nixed, and the people in those jobs were offered new positions or have left VCU.
