The sporting goods retail chain is planning to open a new 63,000-square-foot store at Pocono Crossing shopping center next month, according to a company spokeswoman. The new space is at 10400 Midlothian Turnpike and was formerly occupied by a Burlington store.

    Rezonings to allow a pair of data center projects in western Chesterfield are working their way through the county’s approval process. The Planning Commission on Tuesday voted unanimously to recommend approval of requests by the county’s Economic Development Authority to rezone more than 1,300 acres for two data center campuses, one on a site near Westchester Commons and the other on land that includes part of the western Upper Magnolia Green site near Moseley.

    Chesterfield officials continue to tinker with an extensive update to the county’s land-use rules, ahead of plans to adopt a new zoning ordinance this year. The Zoning Ordinance Modernization Project (ZOMod) is several years in the making and would revamp the county’s zoning ordinance, which specifies which land uses are permitted where and under what circumstances. The project would decrease the current number of zoning districts and add new designations.

    A massive expansion of St. Mary’s Hospital took a step forward this week. The Henrico Planning Commission on Thursday recommended approval of a zoning request tied to an eight-story critical care tower that Bon Secours wants to build at its hospital off Monument Avenue. The 200,000-square-foot project would rise on an existing parking lot and patient drop-off area at the hospital’s main entrance that fronts Bremo Road.

    Panera Bread is moving forward with plans to expand its local presence with a new location at one of Chesterfield’s latest developments. The fast-casual restaurant chain recently paid $1.5 million for a 1.3-acre parcel at 6741 Courthouse Landing Lane, where it plans to build a 3,200-square-foot restaurant. The property is on the south edge of Courthouse Landing, a 124-acre mixed-use project under construction at the corner of Iron Bridge and Courthouse roads.
