Police identified two suspects Thursday wanted in connection with a Gayborhood killing that happened in the aftermath of the LGBTQ Pride march and festival. Authorities are searching for Nysheem Hinson-Rakley, 22, and Tyrik Ransom, 24, as part of the investigation into the fatal shooting of 31-year-old Derwin Matthews Jr. He was shot in the abdomen just after 2:30 a.m. Monday, June 2, on the 200 block of S. Camac Street in Center City, police said.

Authorities have arrested and charged a man who allegedly impersonated a federal immigration officer during a robbery earlier this month in Mayfair. Robert Rosado, 54, is accused of identifying himself as law enforcement as he entered a car repair shop June 8 on the 6400 block of Harbison Avenue. He zip-tied a 50-year-old woman and took about $1,000 in cash, according to police.

Posted on The Philadelphia Federation of Teachers has authorized a strike, raising the possibility that educators in the city’s public schools could walk out of classrooms at the beginning of the upcoming academic year. Members who showed up to a special meeting Tuesday voted 94% in favor of the authorization, which permits PFT leaders to call for a strike once the union’s current contract expires Aug. 31, representatives said.

Authorities have arrested a suspect in the killing of a 17-year-old boy last week in Southwest Philadelphia. Raynald Francois, 30, has been charged with murder in connection with the June 8 fatal shooting of Zaafir Jerry on the 2200 block of S. Felton Street, police said Wednesday. He turned himself in at PPD headquarters, according to investigators. Officers responded to the shooting just after 11:15 a.m. and found Jerry with gunshot wounds to his head, hip and back, police said.

Temple University President John Fry believes Philadelphia’s colleges might be on the verge of a “generational transformation.”He is co-chairing a task force launched Tuesday that intends to guide the fate of higher education in the region. Members include university leaders, as well as federal, state and local elected officials. “The future is not a dream,” said the other co-chair, St. Joseph’s University President Cheryl McConnell, during an afternoon event at City Hall.
