Senate approves resolution to investigate district attorneys

MEMPHIS, Tenn. (WMC) - The Tennessee Senate passed Senate Resolution 120 on Wednesday. The resolution, sponsored by Sen. Brent Taylor (R-Memphis), calls for the Tennessee Supreme Court to establish a Judicial Review Committee to investigate three district attorneys general. These include Shelby County District Attorney Steve Mulroy, Davidson County District Attorney Glenn Funk and District Attorney Chris Stanford, who serves Warren and Van Buren counties.
Memphis Tiger signs deal with Chicago Sky

MEMPHIS, Tenn. (WMC) - University of Memphis guard Tilly Boler has signed a deal with the Chicago Sky. After going undrafted in the WNBA Draft, Boler signed a training camp contract with the Sky. Boler was named First Team All-AAC in 2025 after transferring from Jackson State. She averaged 16.6 points while shooting 37% from three-point range as a senior with the Tigers. Whisenhunt missed the Showboats first game of the season amid a leave of absence, but returned after a week away. “The time has come for me to step away from the game and take a break from football. Man wanted in shooting that injured 6-year-old boy, adult

MEMPHIS, Tenn. (WMC) - Memphis Police Department is searching for the man accused in a shooting that injured a boy and a man in March. The shooting happened on March 30 in the Frayser area. Two victims were located--an adult man and a 6-year-old boy. Both were taken to the hospital and have since been released. MPD reviewed surveillance footage from the Ridgecrest Apartments that shows a man speaking to the adult victim moments before the shooting.
Driver missing after early morning crash

GADSDEN, Tenn. (WMC) - Authorities are still searching for the driver of a vehicle that was totaled in a crash in Crockett County. The crash happened in the early morning hours Saturday. A contingent of first responders from multiple agencies arrived at the scene around 3 a.m. only to find no victim among the nearly 200 yards of debris. Officials searched the area, using drones and heat-detecting technology. Eventually, a helicopter was dispatched. Still no victim was found.

GADSDEN, Tenn. (WMC) - For more than two days, authorities searched for the driver of a vehicle that was totaled in a crash in Crockett County. In an update Monday night, the Crockett County Sheriff’s Department said that they found the person who they believe is the driver, and that he said he was picked up from the crash scene and taken home unscathed.
Tax deadline pushed back for victims in Tenn. storms

MEMPHIS, Tenn. (WMC) - Victims of recent severe weather in Tennessee will receive an extension on their taxes, the IRS announced Monday. Businesses and individuals impacted by tornadoes, straight-line winds or flooding during storms that pummeled the Mid-South in early April will now have until November 3 to file their taxes. That deadline applies to tax returns and payments normally due on April 15. The Nov. 3 deadline also applies to 2024 contributions to IRAs and health savings accounts.
Kindergarten assistant charged with child pornography

COURTLAND, Miss. (WMC) - A Kindergarten Assistant is charged with possessing child pornography. Investigators executed a search warrant at the home of Benjamin Wilkes in Courtland, Mississippi, on Friday. Wilkes, 30, was charged with possession and access with intent to view and transportation of child pornography. Benjamin Wilkes(South Panola School District)Wilkes is listed as an assistant at Batesville Elementary School. South Panola School District says Wilkes is no longer employed with them.
Mid-South native to be inducted into WWE Hall of Fame

COLDWATER, Miss. (WMC) - Mid-South native James Harris, best known as Kamala, is set to be inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame. Harris was born in Coldwater, Mississippi and raised in Senatobia before his storied wrestling career. Kamala was a mainstay in WWE in the late 1980s, known for his feuds against Hulk Hogan, Jake “The Snake” Roberts and The Honkey Tonk Man. Harris died in 2020 at the age of 70.
