Big picture: 49ers aren't fully tearing it down. But they're not going for it this year Eating as much dead $ as they can, loading up on cost-controlled, cheap deals, trying to find value in margins. It's economically sound, but means they're betting their success on the draft

This cycle has had some woefully overpriced players. SF have been kneecapped by bad contracts to guys past their prime you can simultaneously credit them for cutting bait, resetting a bit, while acknowledging they've yet to move on mid-tier options they need to fill out the team

Felt like Jones made a ton of sense for the 49ers last year - Kyle gets his guy, and for an incredibly reasonable price tag. A lot of the aversion to Jones was Jones at 3 overall, not Jones at all. Him as a backup? Ideal.
