Dunkirk officials are casting a wide net for creative proposals to breathe new life into a prime piece of waterfront real estate that's sat vacant for decades. Dunkirk is looking for a developer to buy and build on a 2.3-acre waterfront site along the Dunkirk Harbor. The city has owned the parcels on Lakeshore Drive, next door to the Clarion Hotel, since taking them through an eminent domain process in 1987. The property has been vacant for many years.

West Herr Auto Group paid $1.8 million for the restaurant site in Amherst with an eye toward future development. A West Herr Auto Group affiliate has purchased the former Protocol restaurant at 6766 Transit Road, Amherst, according to documents filed with the Erie County clerk's office. A West Herr representative said the company has no immediate plans for the 2.3-acre site but purchased the property to support future development.
