    Published: June 1, 2025 at 8:50 PMA set of property tax cut bills in Texas Legislature, Senate Bill 4 and Senate Bill 23, are now headed to Governor Greg Abbott’s desk for signature. Both bills are sponsored by Houston Republican Senator Paul Bettencourt. SB 4 would raise the homestead exemption from $100,000 to $140,000. SB 23 would give an additional exemption to those over 65 years of age or have disabilities. A homestead exemption is a way to lower the taxable value on property.

    HOUSTON – Heavy rain brought some floodings to areas of Houston on Wednesday. One community that has been prone to flooding in the past is Meyerland, in Southwest Houston. This past January, the Meyergrove Stormwater Detention Basin project was completed for flood control in the area. Michael and Freda Wadler have dealt with flooding at their Meyerland house three times before: the 2015 Memorial Day flood, the 2016 Tax Day flood and Hurricane Harvey in 2017.

The Air Emission Event report data says the released lasted for approximately 48 minutes from 8:15 a.m. until 9:03 a.m.The chemical leak prompted a shelter-in-place order for cities of Clute and Lake Jackson, as a precaution, according to Brazosport CAER.
