NEWBERRY- Prior to this year the Newberry baseball team had won only 3 games in the last four seasons but the Indians so far this year are a much improved 6-3. The Rudyard Bulldogs at 7-9, but this time last year they were 5-8 and eventually made it to the state finals in division 4 before losing 3-2 in the championship game. Newberry would take the first game 3-2, but Rudyard would win the second.

NEWBERRY- The Rudyard softball team would get a big sweep against Newberry on the road. They set the tone in the first game, winning 15-5.

CEDARVILLE/DETOUR- In 2022 the Cedarville and Detour school districts signed an agreement to co-op athletics between the two small schools that are 25-miles apart from one another. In years prior Cedarville was in a co-op with Pickford for both baseball and softball that would dissolve five years ago, while Detour had neither program. Just like the Pickford co-op, Cedarville and Detour have now come together to field varsity baseball and softball teams.

SAULT STE. MARIE- Lake Superior State University is making sure their Men’s Basketball coach sticks around for many years. On Wednesday, the athletic department announced they extended Steve Hettinga’s contract through 2035. The contract solidifies his place as the longest-tenured coach in program history.
