The decision to fire Donna Desjardins comes after an investigation into alleged mishandling of funds while managing the shelter in St. Ignace. Desjardins was manager for the past two years....     Several fire departments were at the Kinross Township Community Park last night battling a fire at the Kinross 4H Center. The call came into Chippewa County Central Dispatch around 7:45 p.m. that there was an explosion causing the building to erupt in flames. Nine volunteer fire departments along with Kinross EMS, law enforcement and the Victim Services Unit all responded. SooLeader was told by a witness at the scene that debris appeared to be blown out on the southwest side of the building.

According to Fire Chief Bryan Huntley, the blaze began around 7:44 p.m. at the 4-H building, located on the south end of the Chippewa County Fairgrounds.

    The annual Chippewa-Luce-Mackinac Conservation District's (CLMCD) Native Plant and Garden Market last Friday had a special meaning. The event was named in memory of Jane Bishop, who passed away this past March at the age of 66. Bishop was a pillar in the Eastern U.P. in the field of farming and nature conservancy. Among other things, she was on the board of directors at the CLMCD for two decades. "It's always been in her blood. So, it made sense for her to be on our board of directors.
