If you were trying to invent a duck call for teenagers, you couldn’t do much better than, “For this next activity, we just need noise.”Those words were spoken by Josh Stewart, and the 85 kids gathered at the Billings Depot on Wednesday afternoon were all too willing to accommodate his request. They whooped, hollered and screamed, and all the while there was Stewart, rising above the din. He’s used to this.

If there’s one thing Leslie Budewitz knows, it’s a good mystery. The author, who grew up in Billings and now lives in Bigfork, is about to publish “Lavender Lies Bleeding,” the ninth book in her series the “Spice Shop Mysteries.” Those books, along with her other series the “Food Lovers Village Mysteries,” are cozy comforts, full of food and fun. Imagine if Mary Berry and Agatha Christie were the same person. She’s got a shelf full of Agatha Awards, basically the Oscars for mystery novelists.
