Is Montana about to leap into the American culinary world? Maybe. At least if you consider the James Beard Awards to be the epicenter of the American culinary world. Which, to be fair, is pretty debatable. The James Beards are more or less the food world's Oscars — maybe not necessarily "right," but always canonical. There's no more recognized stamp of gastronomical excellence in this country.

They don't call her the Outlaw Queen just because it rhymes. Norrine Linderman is royalty. Norrine the Outlaw Queen is one of Montana's all time great musicians, a constant force on the Eastern Montana music scene. Stay quite enough on the plains and when the winds are right, maybe you'll hear her yodels in the air. But Linderman is still here. She turned 95 on June 9, and the Carbon County Historical Society and Museum in Red Lodge is hosting a birthday party for her at 3 p.m. Saturday, June 14.
