WACO, Texas (KWTX) – After years of development, the Cameron Park Zoo officially opened the Gloria and FM Young Penguin Exhibit. A ribbon cutting ceremony was held on Thursday, August 8, celebrating the Zoo’s 22 African Penguins. “There is just something special about penguins,” Brendan Wiley, Director of the Cameron Park Zoo, said.

WACO, Texas (KWTX) - After years of delays, construction is underway on a new veterans housing development at the Doris Miller VA Medical Center. Construction began on Freedom’s Path Waco, a 34-unit development that will give leasing preference to homeless or near homeless veterans, on June 3. A groundbreaking ceremony was held for the site on July 26.

WACO, Texas (KWTX) - The Salvation Army in Waco’s newest officers Major Jeffrey and Captain Tammy Miracle officially assumed their new positions on Monday, June 24. This comes as Major James Taylor, who had led the Waco chapter of the Salvation Army since 2018, retired last month. The couple first commissioned as officers for the Salvation Army back in 1990 and have served in several different locations since then, most recently Freeport.

COLLEGE STATION, Texas (KWTX) – George H.W. Bush would have turned 100 years old on June 12, 2024. His children and grandchildren chose to honor him at his birthday celebration by skydiving into the lawn of the George H.W. Bush Presidential Library and Museum on Friday, June 13. The former president had a tradition of going skydiving every 5th birthday, all the way up until he was 90 years old. Seven of Bush’s 19 grandchildren made the jump, as did his youngest son Marvin Bush.
