The program serves six counties—Richland, Lexington, Fairfield, Orangeburg, Calhoun, and Newberry—aiming to ensure students read at grade level by the start of fourth grade.

COLUMBIA, S.C. (WIS) - Columbia High’s BLAST program is preparing students for careers in aerospace and STEM. The program, funded by a U.S. Department of Education grant, is part of the nation’s first K-12 aerospace continuum, with only two districts in South Carolina chosen for the grant. The BLAST program is led by Dr. Joy Obidike and offers four academies at Columbia High: cybersecurity, biomedical sciences, aerospace, and engineering.

COLUMBIA, S.C. (WIS) - This week marks National Salute to Veteran Patients Week. It’s a time to honor the sacrifices of those who have served in the military. At VA Dorn Hospital in Columbia, members of the 173rd Airborne Brigade Association Chapter 30 showed their appreciation in a heartfelt way. Volunteers greeted veterans with coffee, snacks, and words of gratitude. For April Woolsey, a former Sky Soldier and member of the association, the event was deeply personal.
